In 2022, eight (8) Young ASEAN Storytellers (YAS) from Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, and Viet Nam were selected to visit an ASEAN Heritage Park (AHP) in their own country and create and tell powerful stories of our shared natural and cultural heritage to a wide range of audiences through various platforms and media.

Supported by the Institutional Strengthening of the Biodiversoty Sector in ASEAN (ISB II) Project, commissioned by the BMZ and jointly implemented by the GIZ and the ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity (ACB), the YAS created 7 stories ranging from films, photo collections, and narratives. These stories depict the intricate relationship between the local communities and the environment they live in. Through the programme, the YAS have come to value biodiversity and its connection with people more, as well as gaining a better understanding about national biodiversity governance structures. More importantly, the YAS were able to show the power of the youth and storytelling for biodiversity conservation.
