Gender Transformative Approaches (GTA)

Background

The Feminist Development Policy is now one of the four political priorities for the BMZ, emphasizing Rights, Resources, Representation as overarching and cross-sectoral action areas. There is a diverse understanding of gender issues among GIZ projects, and there is a need to provide ā€˜Knowledge exchange, capacity building and advisory services on Feminist Development Cooperation and Gender Transformative Approachesā€™ to GIZ colleagues working in Asia Pacific region. The SNRD-AP & TUEWAS Sector Network (SN) Joint Working Group on Gender Transformative Approaches (GTA) was formed in March 2023, after the successful implementation of ā€˜Innovations in Gender Transformative Approaches (GTA) in Rural Development Task Forceā€™ by SNRD-AP (May 2022 ā€“ April 2023). The Gender Working Group is formed to promote this engagement between the projects across SNRD-AP & TUEWAS Sector Networks, and also joining efforts by engaging with other sector networks in Asia such as Assets for Asia, SNGA, etc. South-south online exchanges on GTA with SNRD-Africa GTA Working Groups will also be a priority for this Working Group. This will strengthen the gender competence of GIZ staff, and pave way to how GIZ can further contribute towards gender equality and social inclusion using gender transformative approaches in its projects and programmes.
