Virtual Consultation on Integrated Management Planning: Reflections on Current Process and Way Ahead
On 23 June 2023, a virtual consultation on “Integrated Management Planning: Reflections on Current Process and Way Ahead” was hosted by the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change (MoEF&CC)
Organised under IKI-BMUV Wetlands Management for Biodiversity and Climate Protection project of MoEF&CC and implemented by GIZ, the consultation saw over 100 participants, including State Wetlands Authorities, Site Managers, Knowledge Partners, Third-Party Assessment Agencies empanelled for Integrated Management Planning (IMP)review, as well as Ministry representatives.
Thereafter, participants shared their unique experiences with the IMP formulation process, addressing common data sources, necessary timeframes, and required capacities. Following a period of collaborative discussion, the session transitioned to an introduction of a proposed two-step IMP preparation process.
The session aimed to create a platform for initial dialogue on this newly suggested two-step IMP preparation structure. The session’s constructive feedback shall serve as the foundation for the first follow-up event – a national workshop in Bhopal with State Wetland Authorities and Knowledge Partners, scheduled from 13-15 July 2023, focusing on initiating framework IMP preparation for prioritised wetlands.
