Under the Umbrella: A short introduction to UPNRM

The Umbrella Programme on Natural Resource Management (UPNRM) is a cooperation between the Indian National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and the German Development Bank (KFW) who operate on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ)).
To achieve environmentally friendly economic growth across all strata of society, UPNRM supports projects that link natural resource management with livelihood improvements of the rural poor. The programme’s tailored loans and partnership facilitation support the Government of India’s mission to incentivize and augment private sector investments.
To date, 173 projects have been sanctioned under UPNRM covering more than 271,000 people in over 3,300 villages across 17 states and 1 union territory of India.
