Training of Trainers (TOT) on Sustainable Cumin Cultivation Practices in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan

The DPP Spices project, a collaborative effort by GIZ, AVT McCormick, and McCormick, organized a Training of Trainers (TOT) session on sustainable Cumin Cultivation Practices in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, on August 24, 2023. The objective was to equip farmers with the knowledge and skills needed for promoting sustainable and organic farming. The event saw the participation of 42 master trainers from 10 clusters in Jaisalmer.

The training covered essential aspects of sustainable spice cultivation, including introduction to sustainable agriculture principles, crop management, soil fertility, soil testing for Integrated Nutrient Management, irrigation, and water management. The session also explored integrated pest management techniques to reduce pest infestations.

The final module led discussions on post-harvest management practices and emphasized the use of PP bags and hermetic bags for cumin storage. This TOT session marked a significant step toward promoting sustainability in cumin cultivation, in line with the broader mission of empowering smallholder farmers in India with the knowledge and skills for sustainable agriculture.
