Toolbox on Solar Powered Irrigation System (SPIS) Launched!

07 June 2018

The Deutsche Gesellschaft fĆ¼r Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is happy to announce the launch of the Toolbox on Solar Powered Irrigation System (SPIS). This Toolbox was made possible through the global initiative Powering Agriculture: An Energy Grand Challenge for Development (PAEGC). The Toolbox is freely available on www.energypedia.info.

The SPIS Toolbox enables practitioners in the field of solar irrigation to provide hands-on guidance to end users, policy makers and financers. It consists of informative modules, which are complemented by user-friendly tools, including calculations sheets, checklists, and guidelines. The modules and tools address issues such as: assessing the water requirements, sustainable design and maintenance of a SPIS, comparing the financial viability, and many more. Each of the modules can be used independently or in combination with other modules.

The Toolbox is continuously refined and expanded. Should you have any suggestions on improving, adjusting or expanding the Toolbox or should you wish to adopt the Toolbox for own initiatives, please contact the Powering Agriculture team at Powering.Agriculture@giz.de.
