Supported by GIZ, Indonesia hosts a kick-off meeting on ASEAN Community Based Climate Action. The event aims to share the work plan and initial findings of the ASEAN Community-Based Climate Action (CBCA) Study to the ASEAN Member States. The CBCA itself is a part of AWGCC Action Plan (2021-2025), to exchange experiences and lessons learned on local community-based climate action to strengthen ASEAN Member Statesā€™ capacity in climate adaptation and amplify good practices from the national level to the regional. This event marks a crucial starting point emphasizing proactive steps to tackle climate change in the region.

The highlights of the initial findings are that most of the ASEAN Member States have implemented community-based climate action, both in adaptation and mitigation aspects. It covers activities in agriculture, forestry, water, and energy sectors. The Government of Indonesia has led the Community-Based Climate Action initiative under the 2023 ASEAN Chairmanship framework. In this activity, the Government of Indonesia is commissioning a study to analyse existing community-based climate action good practices and innovations in the region, and then formulate recommendations to replicate and to enhance the community-based climate action (CBCA). The study is supported by GIZ ASEAN ā€“ German Climate Action Programme.
