State-level multi-stakeholder meeting on Integrated Management Plans for Renuka Wetland and Pong Dam Lake in Shimla

A state-level multi-stakeholder meeting was held under the chairpersonship of the Member Secretary, Himachal Pradesh State Wetland Authority to review the integrated management plans (IMP) and budgets for Pong Dam Lake and Renuka Wetland. Site Managers presented the IMPs to representatives from departments of forest, fisheries, tourism, rural development, Himachal Pradesh State Pollution Control Board, Himachal Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority, Himachal Pradesh State Biodiversity Board, Bhakra Beas Management Board, Jal Shakti Vibhag, Animal Husbandry and knowledge partners (GIZ, Wetland International South Asia (WISA) and Worldwide Fund). Budgets, lead and supporting roles on joint management actions were agreed upon. The Himachal Pradesh State Wetland Authority (HPSWA) has also proposed District Wetland Committees in Himachal Pradesh and presented its composition and terms of reference for discussion.

Integrated management planning for the two Ramsar Sites has been supported by the MoEFCC-GIZ Technical Cooperation project ā€˜Wetlands Management for Biodiversity and Climate Protectionā€™, being implemented jointly in Himachal Pradesh with HPSWA and Forest Department, with technical support from WISA.
