Short Film on Sirpur Talaab: Lifeline of Indore

03 February 2024

Located in Indore, Sirpur Talaab is a Ramsar site in the state of Madhya Pradesh, India. Built by the Holkars, the erstwhile rulers of Indore State, primarily for drinking water supply, the wetland lost its ecological integrity over time. But today with the help of citizen initiatives and government interventions, the wetland has been preserved. It attracts several migratory birds along with providing habitat for many native species.

The wetland is also culturally important for the urban dwellers. A short film capturing the significance of this wetland was developed under the project with the help of Biont. The film was released on the World Wetlands Day (WWD) 2024 at Sirpur itself, which was the host wetland for this yearā€™s international WWD celebrations. The film was also screened in the ā€˜Wetlands for Lifeā€™ Film Festival and Forum at Indore Press Club from 3 ā€“5 February 2024. The Indore Film Festival was the first chapter in this travelling festival curated under the project.
