Private Sector Engagement for Wetland Management and Wise Use
The IKI-BMUV project āWetlands Management for Biodiversity and Climate Protectionā in collaboration with MoEF&CC and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), organised a workshop on ‘Private Sector Engagement for Wetland Management and Wise Use’ on January 31, 2024, in New Delhi. Chaired by Dr. Sujit Kumar Bajpayee, Joint Secretary, MoEF&CC. The event welcomed distinguished guests including Ms. Taina Dyckhoff from the German Embassy and Dr. Musonda Mumba of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands.
Recognising the increasing significance of the private sector, businesses play a crucial role in adopting wetland-focused, ecosystem-based approaches to tackle climate change. The establishment of the India Wetland Coalition (IWC) facilitates business partnerships for wetland conservation, addressing the risk of nature loss and bolstering resilience to climate change.
The workshop aimed to foster collaboration among policymakers, businesses, and environmental advocates to ensure sustainable wetland use. Key objectives included exchanging knowledge on business risks and opportunities, transforming IWC strategy for affirmative action, and establishing enabling conditions for joint business cases. Insights gleaned highlighted the potential of ecosystem-based investments and emphasized the importance of partnerships for effective wetland conservation.
