A discussion on Integrated Wetland Management Plan was organised by NERAQ among its State partners in Assam, namely, Department of Forests, wetland assessment agencies – NGO Aaranyak, IIT Guwahati, and others on 07 February 2023 at GIZ Regional Office, Guwahati, Assam. The discussion was aimed at engagement and synergies with other IKI (International Climate Initiative) projects with similar areas of interest. The meeting was also attended by NEWS (Nature, Environment & Wildlife Society) the implementing partner for IKI-Living lakes biodiversity and climate project (IKI-LLBCP).

The discussion was facilitated by the team from Wetlands Management for Biodiversity and Climate Protection Project- a part of the Indo-German Biodiversity Programme of GIZ. Wetlands Project has prepared Integrated Management Plans for four pilot Ramsar Sites based on biodiversity, ecosystem services and climate change risks in its project states. The process, approach, tools and learnings from preparing these IWMPs were shared by the team. The NERAQ project will prepare IWMPs for its two pilot sites in Assam – Doloni Beel and Deepor Beel.
