CMPA Technical Report Series No. 13 Enhancing the effectiveness of conservation potential of marine mammals in Indian seas

Analysis of the 379 records on stranding of marine mammals in India spanning the period from 1800 to 2016 showed that the stranded animals belonged to 25 species, consisting of 5 baleen whale species, 4 toothed whales, 14 dolphins and one species each of finless porpoise and sea cow. Examples of awareness material on the methods for rescue operations are presented and recommendations for conservation and protection of cetaceans are listed.
