Climate Smart Solutions in Agriculture in Himachal Pradesh: Experience sharing Stakeholders Workshop and Exhibition
Renewable-energy based technologies strengthen farmersā livelihoods, create opportunities for market linkages and better remuneration, while avoiding greenhouse gases and potentially contribute to climate change adaptation. However, the challenge with these technologies lies in their adoption and scaling up.
A stakeholder workshop and exhibition of renewable energy technology solutions relevant for the apple economy in Himachal Pradesh was organized by the āGreen Innovation Centres in Agricultural and Food Sector India ā GICā project, in partnership with the Department of Horticulture and SELCO Foundation. Some of the renewable energy innovations piloted by the project in Himachal Pradesh include cold storage solutions for smallholder farmers, water lift pump that utilises hydro power, digital soil testing, and devices using solar energy to mitigate human-wildlife conflict.
The stakeholder meeting shared the experiences of piloting the innovations and their impact. The exhibition showcased the potential of renewable energy in the apple value chain to the farmers, government bodies, private bodies, and development organisations working in the region. The deliberations will aid in facilitating further adoption and scaling up. The exhibition will facilitate further ideas, opportunities, and partnerships in the apple landscape.
