ASEAN Showcases its Efforts and Challenges in Combatting Climate Change at COP 28

ASEAN is home to one of the world’s most valuable biodiversity and is one of the rapid economic forces in the world. Yet, the region is experiencing huge impacts of climate change. The way ASEAN addresses the issue will be decisive for Asia and the rest of the world. At COP 28 UNFCCC which took place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, ASEAN held a series of events to showcase achievements, challenges, and best practices in addressing climate change, enhancing their cooperation and dialogue with other stakeholders, and participating in more than 20 side events. The events are supported by the German Government under the initiative of the ASEAN EU-German Climate Action Programme (CAP) project, implemented by GIZ in cooperation with The ASEAN Secretariat and ASEAN Working Group on Climate Change, which are:

1) Reaffirming ASEAN’s Climate Action with the Establishment of Climate Change Centre
2) Reflection on ASEAN Chairmanship 2023 through the ASEAN Joint Statement on Climate Cahnge to the COP 28
3) Experiences of and Responses to Loss and Damage in Island and Coastal Communities
