Village Forest Management Planning (VFMP) is the management of forest and forestland within the area of a village, which is operated both within and outside Protection Forests, Conservation Forests and Production Forests. Villages shall take leadership in managing and protecting forests and support the rehabilitation of degraded forests, the prevention of forest fires and encroachment of forestland. The goal is to transform the village’s managed forests into a thriving and abundant resource, establishing the village as a leader in forest protection.

The VFMP approach will provide the required working steps to implement village forest management activities in all three forest categories and is therefore designed as a working tool for all relevant sector ministries and all concerned institutions and stakeholders. Therefore, this training aims to build capacity for implementors or District of Agriculture and Forestry Offices (DAFOs) in conducting VFMP at village level. DAFOs of targted districts in Bokeo, Luang Namtha and Oudomxay Provinces will be trained in late July to early August 2024.
