Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+)

About the Working Group

The SNRD Asia working group on Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+) focuses on the topics of (1) How can REDD+ be successfully implemented in the region and (2) how can GIZ position itself? The working group is primarily pushing the exchange of REDD+ knowledge and experiences (e.g. MRV/REL; Safeguards, and Safeguards Information Systems: Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC), FCPF related issues i.e. access to the FCPF Carbon Fund, climate finance as well as carbon markets and biodiversity issues) among the GIZ staff of the REDD+ working group to provide profound advisory services to our partner countries.

Issues

The Warsaw Framework for REDD+ was adopted in December 2013, providing additional guidance for in-country REDD+ implementation. REDD+ is part of the Paris Climate Agreement. It has implications for the WG REDD+ and in-country implementation, including Safeguards Information System, national forest monitoring approaches and reference levels as well as access to climate finance. Another priority will be around Forest Landscape Restoration and Deforestation-free supply chains.
