Training of Trainers on Good Agricultural Practices for Coffee farmers in Bandung District, West Java Province, Indonesia

This ToT program is part of the iDPP between SASCI+ (the Indonesia component of GV Agrichains) and PT Indocafco, with the aim to introduce sustainable agricultural practices to coffee farmers in Bandung, West Java. This activity not only aims to increase farmers’ incomes through increased coffee crop productivity, but also to ensure that coffee production in the region is environmentally and socially responsible, and deforestation-free. A total of 27 participants attended the training held on 5-14 June 2024 including coffee farmers, agronomists, and agricultural extension workers from the Bandung’s Agricultural Extension Service.

This training was structured by combining classroom sessions and field practice. During classroom sessions, participants learned about various sustainable agricultural techniques, the importance of complying with international agricultural standards, gender aspects and the benefits of implementing deforestation-free practices. The second part is a hands-on practice session on a coffee plantation, where this field activity allows participants to practice directly on the plantation.

The participants were equipped with skills and knowledge on appropriate agriculture methods and now contribute to the further implementation of the iDPP project. In the months after the training until the end of the project in December 2025, the local trainers will share their knowledge with the other coffee farmers in their area and complement training activities provided by GIZ and PT Indocafco,  resulting in positive changes in cultivation techniques at the farmer level.
