The Partnership on Transparency in the Paris Agreement (PATPA), in collaboration with the Greenhouse Gas Inventory and Research Center of Korea (GIR) and supported by Australia and the UNFCCC, organized the Asia Regional Workshop in Seoul from the 24th-26th of September 2024. The PATPA Secretariat is hosted at the GIZ Support Project for the Implementation of the Paris Agreement (SPA).

The workshop supported countries in finalizing their first Biennial Transparency Reports (BTRs), due in December 2024 under the Enhanced Transparency Framework (ETF). With 40 participants from 19 Asian countries, the event provided technical guidance on applying the modalities, procedures, and guidelines (MPGs) for BTRs. It featured peer exchanges, exercises on GHG inventories, NDC tracking, adaptation reporting, hands-on training with ETF Reporting Tools and a post-event virtual “Ask the Experts” session.

Key takeaways included the importance of establishing institutional arrangements for data collection, focusing on mandatory GHG inventory requirements, building confidence in early BTR submissions and the significance of youth engagement in BTR processes.
