A multi-stakeholder consultation workshop was organised by the Wular Conservation and Management Authority (WUCMA) in Srinagar, in association with the MoEF&CC-GIZ Technical Cooperation project ‘Wetlands Management for Biodiversity and Climate Protection’ and Wetlands International South Asia (WISA).

The workshop gathered over 70 stakeholders, including government officials, NGOs and local community representatives to discuss past management actions and strategies for Wular Lake, the largest freshwater lake in India. The key objectives were to evaluate the effectiveness of the Comprehensive Management Action Plan, 2007 and identify future priorities for a revised integrated management plan for Wular Lake.

Discussions emphasised the need for stronger community involvement, addressing socio-economic needs and enhancing collaboration among organisations. Major threats such as siltation, invasive species and pollution were identified, and research priorities were outlined to inform future management strategies. A series of stakeholder meetings is planned in the coming months to guide the development of the Revised Framework for Wular Conservation (2024–29).
