Local climate action is critical both for addressing region-specific challenges and for contributing to global climate targets. By fostering sustainable practices, such as clean energy adoption, reforestation, and water conservation, communities can reduce emissions, build resilience, and support India’s commitments under the Paris Agreement. This local engagement not only drives regional change but also plays a vital role in global climate efforts by advancing scalable, practical solutions.
GIZ joined forces with the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare (MoA&FW) and Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture (CRIDA) to host the National Roundtable Discussion ‘Krishi Sankalp: Empowering Local Action for Climate Change’. Together with leading experts from the public and private sectors, academia and civil society, the roundtable explored effective strategies for enhancing local Climate Action in the agriculture sector by downscaling agricultural missions and programmes of National and State Climate Action Plans. In his keynote address Mr. Franklin L. Khobung (IFS), Joint Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmer’s Welfare (MoA&FW), highlighted the importance of developing scientific assessment of climate risks at a granular level due to diverse nature of climate vulnerabilities across different regions of India.
