King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) and GIZ under the Thai-German Cooperation on Energy, Mobility and Climate (TGC EMC) organized a visit to KMUTT’s Advanced Fuel Processing Laboratory (AFPL) on May 28, 2024. The event aimed to exchange knowledge and highlight pioneering biomass conversion technologies — managing agricultural residues for energy production. Associate Professor Dr. Suneerat Fukuda, Head of AFPL, led the tour for political partners from the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives.
Participants toured facilities featuring the hammer mill, pellet mill, briquette machine, and vibrating torrefaction reactor, all designed to enhance the value of agricultural residues. The TGC EMC Biomass Component is investigating decentralized pelletization to reduce transportation costs, improve storage, and aid local farmers in Nakhon Sawan province. This method offers significant benefits over traditional straw baling, including reduced storage costs and increased transport feasibility.
The visit facilitated discussions and future collaborations on sustainable energy solutions from agricultural waste. The TGC EMC programme, which is commissioned by IKI from 2023 – 2027, aims to increase Thailand’s renewable energy use and reduce emissions by utilizing agricultural residues.
