Environment department, Government of Uttar Pradesh partners with GIZ India for first ever state conclave on Climate Change

Ahead of COP26 in Glasgow, the Department of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (DoEFCC), Government of Uttar Pradesh organised a two-day ā€˜Uttar Pradesh Climate Change Conclave 2021 (UPCCC 2021)ā€™ in collaboration with GIZĀ India (Technical Partner) at the Indira Gandhi Pratisthan, Lucknow on October 28-29, 2021.

The conclave was supported by the Indo-German project Climate Adaptation and Finance in Rural India (CAFRI) with the objective of enhancing coordination and cooperation for climate action between stakeholders at subnational and state level. Inaugurated by the Honā€™ble Chief Minister of the state of Uttar Pradesh, Shri. Yogi Adityanath, the conclave deliberated topical issues with special focus on India in general, and Uttar Pradesh in particular. The event was aimed to successfully respond to the challenges of climate change via multi-stakeholder engagement, building upon on the response to these changes by process of integration, adaptation, collaboration, and mitigation at local levels. UPCCC 2021 brought together researchers, scientists, policymakers and practitioners from the State, India and abroad, and played host to a physical Exhibition on Climate Change & Clean Environment which provided an excellent platform for B2B, B2C interactions and opportunity to view latest advancements in the field.

On the inaugural day, the Honā€™ble CM launched an Exhibition on Climate Change & Air Pollution Technology. The official inauguration of 18 new Continuous Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Stations in UP also took place during the conclave. Further, Honā€™ble CM unveiled a Coffee Table Book and a book detailing the Government of Uttar Pradesh feat of planting a billion (100 crore) trees, and the Be Carbon Neutral mobile application supported by GIZ India. The Honā€™ble CM also flagged off three eco-tourism circuits virtually during the conclave.

In a special valedictory address, Mr. Amitabh Kant, CEO, Niti Aayog, also expressed the interest of the federal policy think tank, Niti Aayog, to collaborate with the private sector for promoting energy efficient mobility solutions.
