Contributing new best practice solutions – A virtual Write-Shop with the SNRD Asia and the Pacific

19 September 2020

Having already 640 best practice solutions online on the PANORAMA – Solutions for a Heathy Planet platform is a great achievement so far. And with every project under implementation new solutions are created. To share these solutions with the world in a structured way a virtual Write-Shop for PANORAMA was held with the SNRD Asia and the Pacific.

With every project new good practices are created. The PANORAMA initiative is the ideal place to share these with the world. The partnership initiative promotes best practices and solutions for nature conservation and sustainable development. Solution providers and potential replicators are brought together for a mutual learning experiences. Across multiple thematic communities you can share your knowledge and learn how similar challenges are tackled by others. So far there are thematic solutions about ‘business engagement’, ‘agriculture and biodiversity’, ‘ecosystem-based adaptation’, ‘marine and coastal’ and ‘protected areas’. Soon there will be a new cross-linking ‘nature-culture community’.

With every new tool and method implemented new solutions could be published on PANORAMA. But often there is no incentive to deal with the topic of writing and uploading alone. To address this the project on biodiversity and ecosystem services in agrarian landscapes, commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) and co-hosting the Thematic Community on Agriculture and Biodiversity held a virtual Write-Shop with the SNRD Asia and the Pacific.

The 15 participants explored the platform and the features were presented. In online discussions held on MS-Teams, everyone could think about solutions coming from their own field of expertise. In one session ideas for new solutions were developed. The knowledge could be structured via feedback from everyone and processed in such a way that it can be presented to a wider audience. The Write-Shop provided all participants with the necessary background knowledge to publish a solution approach at PANORAMA. It guided through the entire process from idea development to the submission of the approach.

The Write-Shop supported the publishing of solutions from individual projects and was a great opportunity to network with colleagues working in different countries. Furthermore, it shows that even in times of COVID-19 workshops are possible with productive results. Especially in times of home office and working on distance the workshop was a welcome opportunity to exchange ideas and get new inspiration.
