Duration

1 June 2013 – 30 April 2017

Objective

The project aims to:

  • cooperate with the Ministry of Agriculture to use an innovative ICT-based knowledge platform to improve processing and sharing of knowledge around climate change adaptation in agriculture
  • enhance the existing extension systems and local networks to provide locally-relevant and timely information of climate change adaptation

Project Description

Photo_IIAgriculture in India provides food, security and livelihoods for about 60% of the population. However, agriculture sector is prone to the impacts of climatic variability and extreme weather events. The National Mission on Sustainable Agriculture is one of the eight missions during the “12th Five Year Plan”. It addresses the establishment of a sustainable agriculture by including future risks and consequences caused by the impacts of climate change. It devises adaptation and mitigation strategies for ensuring food security, enhancing livelihood opportunities and contributing to economic stability at national level. Several agricultural knowledge and information systems do exist already. However, the information is scattered amongst several platforms and knowledge generating institutions. Together with Ministry of Agriculture, CCKN-IA is using an innovative ICT-based knowledge platform to improve processing and sharing of knowledge around climate change adaptation in agriculture. The project enhances the existing extension systems and local networks to provide locally-relevant and timely information on climate change adaptation.
