The PM-KUSUM Scheme aims to de-dieselize the agricultural sector by supporting the installation of solar powered irrigation pumps and small renewable energy power plants. Financial institutions play a pivotal role in facilitating credit access to solar irrigation projects under the Scheme. Given that credit enhancement requires an understanding of the scheme’s nuances and complexities, GIZ has been engaged in the capacity development of nearly 2500 financiers from 10+ public and private sector banks in India. The training programs implemented via both in-person and digital modes dive deep into the techno-commercial aspects, financial viability and cost-benefit analysis of solar irrigation solutions with technical guidance from the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, Govt. of India. One of the distinct features of the training programs is the engagement with State Implementation Agencies (SIA) that provided significant tangibility in terms of providing bankers with the pipeline of bankable projects under PM-KUSUM. Post the trainings, GIZ continues to facilitate bilateral engagement between banks, developers and SIAs to enhance credit flow for the Scheme.
