Afforestation is essential for restoring ecosystems and enhancing air and soil quality. In Barmer, Rajasthan, known for its arid climate and deforestation challenges, afforestation is crucial to combat desertification and improve soil fertility.

On 21 August, the Maru Laxmi Women’s Cumin Producer Organisation, in collaboration with the develoPPP project ‘Enhancement of Smallholder Spice Farmers’ Capacities in Sustainable Farming,’ hosted an afforestation program in Undoo Village. Over 465 farmers, including 250 women, participated in the initiative aimed at improving environmental conditions and promoting sustainable farming practices. The program included the distribution of saplings among farmers, along with an awareness session on plantation. Under the slogan “One Tree in the Name of Mother,” participants collectively planted the saplings as a significant step toward sustainable development and environmental stewardship in the region. The afforestation initiative fosters long-term environmental benefits by restoring soil health and enhancing biodiversity.
